Primavera

Botticelli's lush allegory of spring assembles Venus, the Three Graces, Flora and Mercury in a shadowy orange grove dense with botanical detail — scholars have identified some 500 plant species. Painted for the Medici, its precise meaning is still debated, blending classical myth with Renaissance Neoplatonism. It is a companion in spirit to his Birth of Venus.
