Hokusai's woodblock print sends a towering, clawing wave over tiny boats while Mount Fuji sits serenely in the distance. Part of his series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, it fused Japanese tradition with imported Prussian blue. It went on to enchant Western artists from Monet to Debussy.
